Author's Bio
Tanya Finney (Tonya) grew up seeking the love of others for acceptance
and fulfillment. Her journey led her to several bad relationships that further fueled
the emptiness felt in her heart. Enlightenment began in a physical move where she
discovered the love she had been searching for – the love of Christ.
Her poetic career began after inspiring her students to write
based on a conversation she had with a nationally known poet. The owner/creator of
“Divine Expressions,” the company in which she writes, she has been selected for her
poetic skills to participate in numerous forums including book clubs, book release
events, and community groups. Her first collection of poetry, Love Letters: Connecting
the heart of man to God, was published in 2006. Accolades for Tanya include a
nomination in 2005 for “Poet of the Year” by The International Library of Poetry and
a listing in the 2006 edition of Who’s Who In Black Atlanta. Her first
work of published prose is entitled “A Blessing In Disguise,” a short story included
in The Midnight Clear anthology. She is a member of American Christian Fiction
Writers and Grown Folks Literary Group of Atlanta.
She is a first year graduate and former leader of Women on the
Path, a women’s ministry group at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. She has been
sought after for counsel, prayer, and discipleship among church members and friends.
A
leader in the education field, Tanya holds a degree in secondary English from Wesleyan
College, master’s and specialist’s degrees in educational leadership from Georgia
College and State University, and has earned an endorsement to teach gifted students.
A resident of metro Atlanta, she is International Baccalaureate coordinator at an
area high school.
